Taoiseach challenges Adams on IRA abusers

The Taoiseach has challenged Gerry Adams to say whether he knows of any alleged sexual abusers who were moved to the Republic by the IRA.

He says allegations made by abuse victim Mairia Cahill will "have serious consequences", and will be debated in the Dáil.

Gerry Adams has apologised to sex abuse victims who he says were "failed" by the IRA, but says the Taoiseach needs to meet with the men at the centre of Mairia Cahill's claims.

The extraordinary exchanges came after Ms Cahill met with the Taoiseach at Government Buildings this afternoon - and stood by her allegations about Sinn Féin's alleged role in covering up her abuse.
