Teachers come under more pressure to accept Junior Cert reform

Teachers are coming under increased pressure to accept a revised proposal for Junior Cert Reform.

School Managers, the Association of Community and Comprehensive schools, the Education and Training Boards, and the Association of Principals have all issued a joint statement saying they regret the decision of the teachers unions to reject the compromise proposal.

The National Parents Council has also said it is disappointed at the decision of the ASTI and the TUI.

The unions say the proposal is a means for further talks but the Minister for Education says the proposals are meant to form the basis for an agreement and are not a starting point .

The Tánaiste Joan Burton has also appealed to teachers to accept the plan saying the Education Minister has been more than generous.

Minister Jan O'Sullivan says she believes the unions should put the deal to a vote of its members:
