A teenager has been transferred to Temple Street Children's Hospital after being rescued from the River Shannon in Athlone this evening.
The 14 year old was swimming with friends when he got into difficulty at about 5.45.
He was rescued by members of Athlone Sub Aqua Club - who were on the water on routine training at the time.
The teen was rushed to Portiuncla Hospital Ballinasloe - however he has since been moved to the Dublin Hospital - where his condition is described as critical.
