A teenage boy has been killed in a hit and run accident in north Dublin.

He was hit by a car on the R139 near Belcamp Park in Coolock at around 9.30 last night.

He was taken to Temple Street Children's Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Gardaí say the car involved in the collision failed to stop or remain at the scene.

It was located and seized by Gardaí a short time later, nearby.

A man in his mid 20's was later arrested in connection with the investigation.

He is currently detained at Finglas Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
