Syrians who have family members living in Ireland are to be granted temporary residence here.

The Justice Minister said vulnerable people in Syria or those who have fled the war-torn country, and who have close relatives legally resident here, will be allowed live in Ireland for up to two years.

Alan Shatter said that sponsors will be invited to submit applications for up to four of their most vulnerable family members.

The Immigrant Council has welcomed the move.
