Tests have confirmed the presence of BSE in a dairy cow in Co Louth - the first recorded case in Ireland for nearly two years.
The Department of Agriculture has issued a statement this evening to say tests have confirmed that it is an isolated case of 'classical' BSE.
All animals potentially exposed have been identified, slaughtered, excluded from the food and feed chains, and tested.
All 63 animals who were born and reared on the farm one year either side of the cow's birth and her 4 offspring who were slaughtered and disposed of have tested negative for the disease.
It's now expected Ireland will be reassigned a ‘controlled risk’ status.
