Young migrants living in Ireland say they've experienced racism by Gardai and immigration authorities.

Men interviewed by the Immigrant Council of Ireland identified discrimination in school, sport, work and by public authorities.

Juliette Gash reports;

The study looked at the experiences of 40 men between the ages of 16 and 28 who were born outside of Europe and now live in Ireland.

They were also concerned about being cut off from family and loved ones by immigration rules.

Key recommendations from the Voices of Young Migrant Men research include:

·   A new National Integration Strategy covering all aspects of Irish life

·   Diversity and anti-racism training across the Garda Force and the development of local ethnic policing forums

·   A proper complaints system for those who experience discrimination in accessing public services

·   Equality of access to schools by abolishing waiting lists

·   Immigration reform including a clear and fair process for families to reunite
