The Tanaiste says some elements of the NO campaign are offensive

The Tanaiste says some elements of the NO campaign for the Marriage Referendum, are offensive to people from different family backgrounds.

Joan Burton, who is adopted, says it's insulting for certain family units to be labelled as wrong, by those who claim that children are best served only by a mother and father.

The Labour Party today launched its YES campaign for next month's Marriage Referendum.

The party criticised factions of the NO campaign for attempting to 'muddy' the issue with statements about non-traditional families.

Tanaiste Joan Burton says that this argument is offensive to people who have been raised by single parents or same-sex couples:

However Mothers and Fathers Matter who is campaigning for a No vote says the comments by Joan Burton are disingenuous.
