Irish eyes everywhere will be smiling today as the world celebrates Saint Patrick's Day.

More than 100 million people around the globe claim Irish heritage, but undoubtedly one of the biggest celebrations will be taking place in Dublin.

Half a million people are expected to turn out to watch the parade in our capital city.

Scores of global media outlets have also been invited here to follow the action live.

Alex Connolly is Head of Communications for Fáilte Ireland - he says it's publicity that money can't buy:

The Taoiseach will meet with the US president Barack Obama at the White House today.

Enda Kenny will also meet with Vice-President Joe Biden and the speaker of the House of Representatives, John Boehner.

From Washington, our political correspondent Gavan Reilly reports.

Brendan O’Carroll is Grand Marshall of today’s Parade in Dublin:

The Cork city parade is starting at Parnell Bridge at 1 o'clock this afternoon.

The parade will then travel down South Mall, Grand Parade, and from Patrick St to Merchants Quay

Broadcaster and Cork native George Hook is this year's Grand Marshal.
