Two wind warnings remain in place tonight as Storm Eva makes landfall.
An orange alert is in place for Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork and Kerry.
While a yellow wind alert is in place for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Roscommon, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford.
Meanwhile thousands of homes around the country are without power - in Munster Cobh, Fermoy, Kilworth, Mallow and Midleton in Co. Cork are among the worst hit.
In Leinster Johnstown and Naas in Co. Kildare are also affected.
However, Meteorologist Joan Blackburn says things are expected to improve later in the night;
