Thousands turned out in Blackrock in Co Louth to pay their last respects to Captain Mark Duffy from Rescue 116.

His funeral took place this morning in Blackrock Church more than two weeks after he died in a helicopter crash off the Mayo coast.

Searches are still ongoing for two remaining crew members from the Rescue Helicopter.

In his homily Rev Stephen Duffy described his death as being more than family grief - he said it is a community catastrophe.

"The hearts of all of us are heavy today, heavy and sad because one of our finest and best people has been taken away from us."

Ed Shivnan, Mark's friend and colleague, told mourners that Mark had worked tirelessly to bring people in danger to safety.
