A young woman in her twenties has died in a road crash in County Westmeath.

The three vehicle collision happened at Hiskinstown, Delvin at 3.30pm.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The female passenger also in her twenties has been taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar where her injuries are described as serious.

The female driver of the second car has been airlifted to Tallaght Hospital and is also in a serious condition.

The male truck driver was uninjured.

The road is currently closed to facilitate a Garda Forensic Investigation and diversions are in place.
