A 47 year old man's died in a road traffic accident in Dublin this morning.

The pedestrian was knocked down on Shelbourne Road in Dublin 4 shortly after midnight.

He was treated by emergency services personnel but was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Shelbourne Road between Bath Avenue and Lansdowne Road has been closed for Garda forensic experts examine the scene.

Meanwhile, a second woman aged 25, has died following a road traffic crash in County Westmeath yesterday afternoon.

A 38 year old woman died at the scene when two cars and a truck collided at Hiskinstown in Devlin.
