Celebrations will be taking place around the world later to mark International Women's Day.

This is the 107th year of the annual event which recognises female achievement and the need for equality.

According to the head of UN Women, a girl born today will be an 81 year-old grandmother before she has the same chance as a man to become a CEO.

She will also have to wait until she is 50-years-old to have an equal opportunity to rule a country.

The National Women's Council of Ireland is promoting the day here - their Director Orla O'Connor says Irish women still have several obstacles to overcome:

Girl Guides are marking International Women's Day by celebrating their varying body shapes.

The 'Free Being Me' campaign aims to boost confidence and self-esteem of young girls.

Helen O'Reilly is a leader with Stillorgan Guides in Dublin.

She explains what ways confidence issues can affect girls:
