Today marks the 16th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.
Nearly 3-thousand people died and over 6-thousand were injured when four planes were crashed into the Twin Towers, Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.
A memorial service will be held at ground zero today where family members of the victims will read out the names of those who died.
An honor guard made up of individuals representing the FDNY, NYPD and Port Authority Police will participate in the ceremony.
The ceremony will pause at six moments - twice to mark the times that each plane hit the towers, twice to mark the time when each tower fell and to mark the moments of the attacks on the Pentagon and on Flight 93.
Light beams where the two towers stood will also be shone at sunset and will fade away at dawn on September 12.
