Tributes paid to Athy crash victims

Tributes are being paid to the four young women who died following a road crash in Co Kildare last night.

They've been named as 19 year old Ashling Middleton from Athy, 20 year old Chermain Carroll from Carlow, and 19 year olds Gemma Nolan and Niamh Doyle also from Carlow.

They were passengers in a car which collided with a van near Athy just before 10pm.

The driver of the car is being treated for injuries in hospital as are the two men who were travelling in the van.

The Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin said it's 'dark day' for the people of Carlow, Rathcoole and Athy following a fatal crash last night in which four young women died. 

All five women - travelling in the car - were past pupils of Saint Leo'Â’s College in Carlow.

Ashling Middleton was a student of English and Anthropology at NUI Maynooth.
