The Communications Minister Alex White has added his condolences to the torrent of tributes paid to Tony Fenton.

Speaking from New Zealand - Minister White said Tony was the voice of a generation.

Tributes have been pouring in for the 53 year old who passed away earlier following a battle with cancer.

The Today FM presenter had been fighting cancer for three years, after being diagnosed aged just 50.

Listeners have been texting, tweeting and emailing their tributes to the DJ with the voice of velvet.

Having been on air for close to 40 years - many people grew up with Tony in the background.
