Almost 100 members of the Defence forces are assisting with flood defences in counties Limerick, Clare, Galway and Westmeath.

Water levels rose dramatically yesterday leading to hundreds of properties being flooded.

Many road remain impassable, several properties have been isolated, and some homeowners have been assisted by the fire service and civil defence.
