Donald Trump's under fire after the White House confirmed it is ending protections for young undocumented immigrants brought into the US as children.

The DACA scheme - introduced under Barack Obama - prevented so-called 'Dreamers' from being deported, but Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced it will now be 'wound down'.

The US President says he now wants Congress to come up with new legislation on the issue.

The announcement drew swift criticism, however, including from the former US president.

Barack Obama wrote in a statement: "To target these young people is wrong – because they have done nothing wrong. It is self-defeating – because they want to start new businesses, staff our labs, serve in our military, and otherwise contribute to the country we love. And it is cruel."
