TUI threatens industrial action over Lansdowne Road deal

The Teachers' Union of Ireland says it will consider industrial action, after members overwhelmingly rejected the Lansdowne Road pay deal.

It means both of the unions representing secondary teachers have now rejected the deal, which is meant to take effect in January.

But the TUI may refuse to honour the provisions of the deal, as it says the arrangements do not address their concerns about understaffing, being overburdened with paperwork, or the precarious conditions of teachers on part-time hours.

It's now threatening to pull out of the Lansdowne Road arrangements, which could then see the government withhold payments for supervision and substitution - escalating a dispute could cause major disruption in secondary schools.
