TV3's political correspondent Ursula Halligan has come out as gay.
In a piece in the Irish Times she says she's stepping aside from coverage of the marriage referendum, because she cannot remain silent on the issue.
She's calling for a Yes vote and is encouraging parents to be pro-active about accepting the sexuality of their children.
TV3 says it also agreed that Ms Halligan should step aside from referendum coverage, as allowing her to report on the campaign after declaring her support for one side could compromise its perception among the public.
It added that she would continue to report on other political matters, and that it held the "highest regard and respect for Ursula's professionalism and impartiality. Further, TV3 respects Ursula's personal wishes regarding this issue and her desire to publicly state her views."
Ursula told the Anton Savage Show that she had no plans to come out during the referendum campaign - but felt she had no other option after some of the comments from campaigners on the No side:
Elsewhere the chairman of the Referendum Commission has said a Yes vote in the referendum will not totally stop the Oireachtas from being able to pass laws which grant extra rights to opposite-sex couples above straight ones.
But in an interview he said distinctions could only be made in exceptional circumstances.
No campaigners have raised fears that a Yes vote would guarantee same-sex couples a right to surrogacy services - though the Commission has said there is no current legal 'right' to surrogacy, and none would be created by a Yes vote.
