Two people have been arrested by Gardai investigating an aggravated burglary in Co Cork last night.

A man entered a house at Pauds Cross in Blarney shortly after 9pm and was confronted by the owner - a man in early 60's.

It's understood a struggle ensued and the suspect fled the scene.

The owner of the house received a number of wounds and was taken to Cork University Hospital, but he has since been released.

Gardaí were alerted and following a search operation a man - in his early 30's - and a woman - is her mid 20's - were arrested.

They are being held at Gurranabraher and Mayfield Garda Stations.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
