A prisoner trying to escape from a courthouse in the US state of Michigan has killed two bailiffs and injured two more people after wrestling a gun from a police officer.

The inmate was being moved from a cell for a court appearance when a fight broke out and he disarmed an officer.

He was then shot dead himself.
