Two bodies have been found in County Monaghan today.

One, a pedestrian, was struck by a car - the other was found in a house.

A man has died after he was knocked down on the Ballynacarry Bridge on the N53, outside Castleblayney.

It's known locally as the Dundalk Road, with local Gardai saying it happened this morning.

His remains are still at the scene, which has been sealed off for a technical examination.

There are diversions in place on both sides of the border for the moment.

Separately, a man's body has been found in Knockreagh Lower, Broomfield, County Monaghan.

The remains are still at the scene, and the state pathologist has been asked to attend.

Gardai say the results of a post-mortem examination will determine the course of their investigation.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to both incidents, and are interested in speaking with anyone who was in Broomfield between 5 and 6.45 this morning.
