Two Deaths On Our Roads In 24 Hours

A 62 year-old man has died following a collision - between a car and a pedestrian - in Dublin City Centre this morning.

It happened on James Street close to Steeven's Lane at approximately 2.40am.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been taken to the mortuary at St. James Hospital.

The driver of the car -a 58 year-old man- was taken by ambulance to St James Hospital for treatment but his injuries are believed to be minor.

The road was closed while Gardai carried out a technical examination but has since re-opened.

Meanwhile, a 19 year-old man has died following a road collision in county Cork yesterday.

The two-car crash happened on the Refinery Road at Corkbeg in Whitegate just after 6.30pm.

The 19 year-old driver of one of the cars was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been removed to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital.

The driver of the second car -a 21 year-old man- was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment for non life threatening injuries.

There were no passengers in either car.

The road is currently closed while Gardai carry out a technical examination of the scene.
