An elderly woman has died, after she was knocked down by a car in Dublin.

The crash happened on the Navan Road in Cabra at 8.15am.

She was taken to the Mater hospital where she later passed away.

The 39 year old male driver of the car was arrested and brought to Finglas Garda station.

He has since been released and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

A man has also died in a crash in Derry.

The victim, in his 40s, was fatally injured when two cars collided on the Clooney Road early this morning.

A man and a woman aged in their 50s were taken to hospital.

Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
