Two people have been killed and one is in a critical condition in hospital after two separate crashes in Dublin overnight.

A woman in her 20's was killed in Fairview when the car in which she was a passenger crashed into a pole at 1:52 this morning.

She was taken to the Mater Hospital in Dublin where she was pronounced dead.

A 20 year old man is in a stable condition in St James' Hospital while the driver of the car - a 26 year old man is in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

The road is closed for a Forensic Collision examination and diversions are in place.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact them in Clontarf on 01 6664800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

Meanwhile, a 21 year old man has been killed after a car hit a tree on the N81 at Brittas at twenty to three this morning.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.  The four other young men in the car aged 19, 20, 21 & 22 were taken to Tallaght and St Vincent's Hospitals for treatment.  Their conditions are described as non life threatening.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact them in Tallaght, on 01 6666000.
