Gardai are hunting for two raiders who held up a security van in Co Carlow yesterday.

It happened at the entrance to the Aldi supermarket in Bagnelstown at around 3pm.

Gardai say two masked men, one of whom was armed with a firearm, threatened a security guard and stole a cash box containing a substantial amount of money.

They escaped in a black BMW coupe.

The cash box and its contents were discovered on the Old Carlow Road - the Dunleckney Road - in Bagnelstown.

The box had exploded, destroying the contents with red dye.
