The trade union Mandate has urged Dunnes Stores management to enter meaningful negotiations to prevent a possible strike.
Two thirds of the union's workers at Dunnes Stores voted for action in a long-running dispute over pay and the use of temporary contracts.
The union will decide next week what form the action will take.
