The UN Security Council is meeting this evening to discuss the crisis in Ukraine.

It was requested by Ukraine's UN representative who's attending the gathering.

It's the council's fifth meeting on tension in Crimea in 10 days.

The French envoy to the UN says Russia must be told not to go ahead with a referendum on Crimea breaking away from Ukraine, but to negotiate instead.
