UN chief Ban Ki-moon says he's appalled by the chilling military escalation in the besieged city of Aleppo.

More than 100 people are reported to have been killed since the Syrian army started a new push to take control of rebel held areas.

Around two million are without water.

The UN Security Council will hold an urgent meeting later to discuss the situation.

The meeting was requested by Britain, France and the US.
