The Mandate trade union is seeking a meeting with the examiner appointed to Homebase.

The home improvement company today confirmed it had gone into examinership, having failed to turn a profit for the last five years.

It said it's also suffered because of upward only rent reviews.

Homebase has 15 shops in Ireland and employs over 550 people.

The retailer says at least three of its stores are not viable.

The branches in question are in Fonthill in Dublin, in Castlebar and in Carlow.

David Gibney of Mandate says the union wants to raise the workers future with the examiner.
