Russia's Foreign Minister will meet his US counterpart John Kerry in Paris today, to discuss an end to the crisis in Ukraine.
The breakthrough follows Friday's phone conversation about the issue between President Vladimir Putin and President Barack Obama.
Russia has now pledged not to invade mainland Ukraine after recently seizing Crimea.
Last night, several hundred Crimeans celebrated their two-hour time change - finalising the region's incorporation into Russia.
