Islamic State militants claim an American hostage has been killed in a coalition airstrike on Syria.

In a statement, the group claims a 26-year-old female aid worker was buried beneath rubble after a raid by a Jordanian warplane in Raqa.

The claims - which were posted on jihadist websites - haven't been independently verified.

American officals say they're looking in to the report.
