Intelligence officials in the US have warned al Qaeda could be planning terror attacks in several states around the US presidential election.

With just four days to go before American's go to the polls the FBI and the New York Police Department said they are taking the threat seriously.

It's understood they're now assessing the credibility of a possible attack on the eve of Election Day.
