The US, UK and France have launched military strikes on Syria in response to an alleged chemical attack - which is being blamed on the Assad regime.

President Donald Trump confirmed that strikes had been ordered on targets associated with the Syrian government's chemical weapons programme.

Syria has denied carrying out the attack.

In his speech at the White House, Mr Trump condemned the alleged attack last week.

British Prime Minister Theresa May insists there was 'no practicable alternative to the use of force'.

The UK's Foreign Secretary has welcomed military strikes on Syria, carried out by the UK, US and France.

Boris Johnson says the world is 'united in its disgust for any use of chemical weapons, especially against civilians.'

The French defence minister Florence Parly claims Moscow was 'warned' before the 'intervention'.

But Syria's described it as a "brutal, barbaric aggression".

Syrian state media claims three civilians have been hurt.

Russia's Foreign Affairs Committee has described the strikes as an 'outrageous violation of international law'.

While the Russian embassy in the US has warned such actions would "not be left without consequences."
