A 47-year-old man is to be sentenced today for attempting to murder his elderly mother in a Waterford nursing home.
Gerald Vollrath of Tramore Heights, Tramore was originally charged with the murder of Veronica Vollrath.
A jury was sworn in late last year for the trial of Gerard Vollrath.
He was accused of murdering his 83 year old mother Veronica who was found dead at Killure Bridge Nursing Home in January 2012
However the trial never got underway because before it started the prosecution agreed to drop the murder charge in exchange for the 47 year old entering a guilty plea to a substituted charge of attemtped murder.
Mr Justice Paul Carney remanded him on bail for sentencing today.
