There's a warning that clamping down on criminals' communications could drive tech companies out of Ireland.

The Government's due to introduce new laws to enable the interception of emails and messages.

According to the Sunday Independent, the IDA has written to the Department of Justice to express its concern that it could affect investment here.

It says the legislation needs to be carefully considered as it's an area which is changing rapidly and there could be differences as to how countries approach it.
