Warning To Shein To Stop Pressuring Consumers
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission says several practices on the platform could potentially break EU consumer law.
Issues raised include fake discounts offered on the website, pressure tactics like using false deadlines, as well as misleading claims about the sustainability benefits of certain products.
The warning has come from the national consumer authorities in Ireland, Belgium, France and the Netherlands as well as the European Commission.
It's part of an ongoing investigation into the online retailer.
Shein now has one month to show it will address the consumer law issues identified - and could be fined if issues persist.
In response, a spokesperson from Shein said, "we have been working constructively with national consumers authorities and the EU Commission to demonstrate our commitment to complying with EU laws and regulations, and we are continuing to engage in this process to address any concerns.
"Our priority remains ensuring that European consumers can have a safe, reliable, and enjoyable online shopping experience."
