Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin says the recent violence in Europe means Ireland must remain committed to an inclusive democracy.

Addressing the John Hume Lecture this evening in the Glenties he said we are living in tense times with radical Islamic terrorists wanting Europe to become repressive, divided and radicalised.

Mr Martin also said the challenge of Brexit lends the government the opportunity to rebuild the people's faith in politics.
