Today FM Presenter Tony Fenton has passed away.

The Radio DJ died this morning at St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin after losing his battle with cancer. He was 53.

He was honoured by his colleagues this lunchtime with a round of applause on the floor.

The Communications Minister Alex White has added his condolences to the tributes pouring in for Tony Fenton - who passed away earlier at the age of 53 - following a battle with cancer.

Speaking from New Zealand - Minister White said Tony was the voice of a generation.

A giant in Irish radio, Tony interviewed all the big names in music from Arcade Fire, Liam Gallagher and Jessie J to Al Green, Carly Simon and Tinie Tempah.

Last September, after a decade at Today FM, Tony was honoured for his skill, passion and love for radio at a ceremony in Dublin in which he was welcomed into the PPI Radio Awards Hall of Fame.

“Tony, from all your friends and colleagues in Today FM: we’ll miss you dearly dude”.
