What next? Parties clash on who will form next government

The deputy leader of Sinn Féin says her party has no intention of acting "as a mudguard" to prop up a Fianna Fáil or a Fine Gael led Government.

Mary Lou McDonald says the results so far indicate a clear impulse for change as 50% of the electorate did not vote for either of the big two parties.

The Dublin central TD says the current government has been "sacked" by the electorate.

She is expecting a grand coalition of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael:

 

Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe retained his seat for Fine Gael in Dublin Central.

He says once all the seats are filled, every TD has a responsibility to ensure a government can be formed:
