One person has died after a car drove into crowds at a white supremacist rally in the US.

The Mayor of Charlottesville Virginia has tweeted to say "a life has been lost" after the demonstrators clashed with anti-fascist activists.

Donald Trump has held a press conference to condemn the violence, which has left dozens injured.

The original rally was organised to protest against a plan to remove a statue of a Confederate General from a public park.

White supremacists and counter-protesters have clashed - throwing punches, water bottles and chemical sprays at each other.
