Gardaí investigating a serious assault on a Garda in a park in Dublin on Tuesday evening are appealling for witnesses.
It's believed the detective attached to Sundrive Garda station approached a group who were acting suspiciously in Ravensdale Park in Kimmage and was beaten across the head as he sat unarmed in an unmarked Garda car.
He was brought to St James Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and has since been released.
Gardai are interested in speaking to anybody who was in Ravensdale Park or the surrounding areas between 7.30pm and 9.15pm on Tuesday night.
In particular Gardai would like to speak to a woman, who was pushing a pram with a child in it in the park and two men, described as wearing suits and coming from work in the area around the time of this incident.
