An ex-British soldier who claims detectives gave him cannabis in order to get close to Ian Bailey said he realised it was wrong and warned the journalist he was being 'stitched'.

Martin Graham has said he was offered 'sweeteners' by gardai to befriend Mr Bailey in a bid to find anything that would link him to the 1996 murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier.

The 53 year old has told the jury that after gardai gave him the cannabis in 1997, alarm bells started ringing like crazy, he knew he was doing something wrong and he decided to come clean.

He said Ian Bailey initially thought he was making it up but then asked Mr Graham to make a statement about what the police had been doing.

Ian Bailey is suing the State and Garda Commissioner for allegedly conspiring to concoct evidence and for wrongful arrest in connection with the French film maker's murder in West Cork.
