A woman in her mid-80s has died following a house fire in County Kerry.

The blaze broke out at about nine o'clock last night at the woman's home in Ballyferriter.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, and gardaí are investigating.

It's understood she lived alone.

The scene has been preserved for technical examination.
