A woman in her 70's has died in a collision in Co. Carlow.

The woman was a passenger in a car which collided with a jeep at Kilcarrig, Bagenalstown shortly before three this afternoon.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body removed to Carlow mortuary.

The driver of the car, a woman in her early 70's, has been taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny with serious injuries.

The driver of the jeep meanwhlie, who's in her 30's, has been taken to the same hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The road has since re-opened.
