A woman has died after being swept out to sea off the coast of Clare.

The woman who is 53 is understood to have been part of a group that were fishing on rocks near Fanore at Ballyreen when she went into the water at about a quarter to nine this morning.

Doolin Coastguard rescued her from the water and she was rushed to University Hospital Galway by Shannon Rescue 115 where she has since passed away.

It's understood the woman who is based in county Tipperary is from Eastern Europe originally.
