Five people are dead following the worst weekend on the roads so far this year.

Three people died in a one car collision in Co Laois in the early hours of Sunday morning.

35 year old mother of one Angela Kelly and 20 year olds Orla Curry and Martin Brophy lost their lives when the car they were travelling in crashed on the main Rathdowney to Abbeyleix road.

In Donegal - at around half past eleven last night - a 21 year old man died when the car he was a passenger in hit a bollard on the Buncrana to Burnfoot Road.

Two other men - one aged 18 and the other 21 - were also injured in the crash. 

And in a third incident a pedestrian in his 20s died when he was hit by a van on the Croagh to Rathkeale Road in Limerick at around 3.30 this morning.
