Zika unlikely to spread to Ireland

An Irish expert in tropical medicine says he has treated a case of the Zika virus in Ireland, but there is little danger of it spreading here.

The World Health Organisation predicts up to four million people could be infected with the illness, which is spread by mosquito's and is linked to brain defects in babies.

                         

Scientists say a vaccine could be available for emergency use in pregnant women before the end of the year.

Dr Graham Fry from the Irish Tropical Medical Bureau says he does not see Zika causing any major problems here:
